Petr

As the Roma say, Petr is a "crossroads" - that is, from a mixed family. His dad is Czech and his mom is Romani.

He felt like a boy in a girl's body. He felt his otherness at the age of four. Can you imagine the confusion of such a young child? Please try to imagine...

...I'm a girl. I can see it. Everyone tells me I'm a beautiful princess! Little girls play with strollers and dolls, dress them up all day, cook with them in tiny kitchens, go for walks... But I want a car! And a plane! Dolls are for girls! Yeah, but I'm a girl...

They were having a carnival at preschool, and a mom decided her little girl was going to be Little Red Riding Hood. Peter was desperate, he knew he didn't want to go as a girl... Well, yeah, but parents at this age treat all children's reactions as some kind of innocent game...

"Look what a rebellious little girl we have! She'd like to be a policeman or Batman," they laugh, hiding the scissors from the little girl so she doesn't cut her long hair...

Year after year passed, and Peter's frustration grew. Puberty was a particularly difficult time for him. In desperation, he decided to try and act like a girl, but it just wasn't possible. No wonder. She just wasn't into people...

You can't be a heavyweight boxer if you feel like a ballet boy... It doesn't matter if you're 6'4", 100 pounds, with muscles like Hercules and a punch like a bull. You're just not a boxer...

Peter's prenatal development may have led him to be born a girl, but no one knew yet that a boy was thinking inside his head. That's one form of transsexuality.

But Peter's parents wanted him to be happy, so they tried to make his life easier by letting him express himself the way he wanted to. What his parents are going through is another story.

"For a mother, it's also all really not easy and challenging." Peter's mother confided.

Over time, Peter came to the only possible decision - to change his gender.

Believe me, you don't make such a decision on a whim. A two-year martyrdom awaits you, during which a team of specialists, a psychiatrist, a sexologist, a psychologist, an endocrinologist, a gynaecologist or a urologist will work with you - and on you. After this time, an expert committee of the Ministry of Health must then give its approval to surgical procedures leading to sex reassignment. Hormone replacement and monitoring of patients after surgery lasts their entire life...

Peter had to go through all this and today he is a happily married, educated and happy middle-aged man.

When he was starting his official transition from female to male, his psychologist advised him to keep a diary. So he started a blog, and over time, he became known to people. He also found friends like him, who were in the same period of life, helping each other and experiencing everything together.

Even today, seven years after his final surgery, Peter is still informally helping and counselling young people with the same life story. He is a positive role model and example to those who are at the beginning of everything and do not see the light at the end.

More and more people are opting for FtM as a solution to their aching heart and soul. According to official statistics from the Ministry of Health, in 2012, 4 women (physiologically only) opted for a change from female to male; in 2019, the number has already reached 95. Peter, who is always ready to help, advise...

"I know how they feel and how difficult it is and that's why if someone asks me for advice, I don't hesitate," said Peter.
